Leading Cork Law Firm opens applications for Intern and Trainee positions

O’Flynn Exhams LLP aims to develop legal talent as business grows

Leading Cork law firm, O’Flynn Exhams LLP is inviting applications for intern and trainee positions, with recruitment now underway for the 2026, 2027 and 2028 intakes on its coveted programmes.

Trainee solicitors at O’Flynn Exhams LLP are primarily selected from its summer internship programme. These four-week placements are open to undergraduate  and graduate students who intend seeking a traineeship and are an immersive experience that offers valuable real-world insight into life as a solicitor in a busy commercial law practice.

Oisín O’Brien and Niamh Carmody both recently interned at the firm and are now on track to undertake their professional training there.

Oisín says: “From the first day I began as an intern, I was given varied, interesting, and hands-on work. The ‘photocopying and coffee-making’ stereotype doesn’t apply here. Instead, you’re thrown right into a supportive team and given every chance to stand out.”

Niamh adds: “What stood out to me just as much as the work itself was the people. Everyone I encountered in the firm was friendly, genuine and encouraging, creating an environment where I felt comfortable asking questions. Having been offered a traineeship with the firm arising out of my internship, I will begin the Professional Practice Course (PPC) Hybrid this December, and I am looking forward to combining my in-office learning with the academic element of the course – and since most sessions take place online at the weekend, I won’t need to move out of Cork.”

Shane Crossan, Managing Partner, O’Flynn Exhams says: “Attracting and developing top legal talent to the firm is key to our growth plans. The internship and trainee programmes remain a priority for us. We welcomed seven interns in the 2025 summer intake and currently have eight trainees in the office, with another four due to commence their training contracts in 2026. Most of our trainees started out as interns. Our trainees bring great energy and ideas, and are a real asset to the firm. Our training programmes incorporate practical client and sector-specific training, which encourages trainees to consider specialisation at an early stage in their careers, while gaining a broad practical base of experience. This also helps us to deliver a focused service and value for our clients. We are proud to see them developing as lawyers, and working well as a collegiate peer group. We look forward to welcoming the next intakes of high-calibre candidates to join us.”

The O’Flynn Exhams trainee programme provides graduates with the practical and technical skills necessary to become successful solicitors. Each trainee works across a range of sectors, and is directly mentored by partners and associate solicitors in each rotation.

The firm plans to retain successful trainees once they qualify as solicitors to meet increasing demand for the firm’s services.
